Four Coral Reef Senior High softball players who won every Greater Miami Athletic Conference championship of their high school careers are headed to college programs this fall after a busy summer on the travel circuit.
Brianna Fields, Chloe Junco, Quin Wylie, and Erin Zambrano started all four years for the Barracudas, helping the program post four consecutive GMAC titles, four straight district championships, and two region final appearances. Their senior season ended 19-6-1, capped by a 6-0 shutout of Goleman in the GMAC championship game on April 17 at JC Bermudez High School in Doral, according to the Miami Herald.
Three of the four jumped straight into summer travel ball with ROCK GOLD, a team coached by Manetta-Gabriel that practices at Palmetto Bay Park. Fields, Junco, and Wylie competed in showcases and tournaments stretching from Viera-Spacecoast Stadium to Blue River Valley Sports Complex in Kansas City to Atlanta Legacy, beginning just one week after their final high school game.
Fields, who played centerfield for ROCK GOLD, posted a .414 batting average with a .714 slugging percentage, 19 RBI, and 26 runs. She will attend the University of Florida to major in engineering after enrolling in Coral Reef's engineering academy.
Junco batted cleanup and participated in Campbell University's summer orientation in Buies Creek, North Carolina, where she will play Division I softball for the Camels.
Wylie led off every game, batting .405 with a .581 slugging percentage, 16 RBI, and 17 runs. She will play NAIA softball for the Mighty Banyans at New College of Florida in Sarasota.
Zambrano took a different summer path. She spent the break giving pitching and batting lessons to younger players and completed a week-long American Airlines aircraft maintenance internship, during which she helped change an Airbus A319 engine and a Boeing 737 tire. She will attend the University of Central Florida in Orlando to pursue aerospace engineering.
