The Deering Estate in Palmetto Bay will charge just $8 for general admission Saturday, Sept. 5, through Monday, Sept. 7, according to Miami-Dade County. That's less than half the regular $18-plus-tax adult price.

The county Heritage Park at 16701 SW 72nd Ave., just east of Old Cutler Road, opens 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. all three days. The $8 rate covers ages 4 and up. Children 3 and under remain free, and parking is free. A guided museum tour is included at 11:30 a.m. each day.

The estate's event listing invites visitors to bring a picnic and spend the day outdoors among the Royal Palm trees overlooking Biscayne Bay. The Stone House interior remains closed for renovation, but the tour covers the exterior and Richmond Cottage.

Active U.S. military personnel and their families get free admission through the Blue Star Museums program, which runs through Labor Day.

County closures Monday, Sept. 7

Miami-Dade County offices, courts, libraries and the Pet Adoption and Protection Center will be closed Monday for Labor Day.

Here's what stays running:

Garbage and recycling: Miami-Dade County Solid Waste Management will run regular pickup on its normal schedule Monday.

Transit: Metrorail and Metromover will operate. Metrobus and MetroConnect will follow Sunday schedules. Special Transportation Service (STS) offices close, but riders can call 305-871-1111 to reserve or cancel trips.

Golf courses: All Golf Miami-Dade courses stay open Monday.

Mosquito Control: No residential or commercial inspections or area-wide treatments Monday, except when necessary. Requests will be handled the next business day.
