A Homestead man faces three felony charges after allegedly swerving his SUV into two cyclists and firing a gunshot on a Cutler Bay road popular with riders.

Raimiero Rios, 40, turned himself in to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office on Monday night, two days after the incident on Southwest 87th Avenue near 184th Street. He is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm from a vehicle, CBS News Miami reported.

The confrontation happened around 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning. According to the arrest report cited by Local 10, Rios was driving a black SUV southbound on SW 87th Avenue when he began honking at two cyclists traveling in the same direction. He then swerved toward the riders, forcing one of them off the roadway, and struck the second cyclist with the vehicle.

After the collision, Rios pulled out a gun and fired one round in the direction of the cyclists, the arrest report states. Deputies who responded found a hole in the ground believed to be from the gunshot. One victim, a 75-year-old man, was knocked off the road. Neither cyclist was seriously injured.

Rios fled before deputies arrived. Video of the encounter, posted on the social media account "Only in Dade," spread widely online and drew national attention from cycling outlet Velo.

Rios appeared in bond court before Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer, who found probable cause for the charges and set bond at $15,000. Glazer ordered Rios to have no contact with the victims. He was assigned a public defender and has since posted bond, according to Local 10.

Kathy Javach, who was driving in the area at the time of the incident, described the aftermath to Local 10: "I saw two cyclists sitting on the grass with their bikes lying beside them, and I saw two police officers."

Residents told Local 10 that the stretch of SW 87th Avenue near 184th Street is a popular route for cyclists. CBS News Miami reported that both victims spoke off camera and said they were OK but declined on-camera interviews because detectives advised them not to discuss the case.

Investigators have not stated what prompted the confrontation. No next court date has been announced.
