Palmetto Bay residents will get a look at the state of the village's stormwater system when the Village Council holds a virtual Committee of the Whole workshop on Tuesday, July 14, at 7 p.m.
The session features two stormwater presentations. The first, sponsored by the village administration, will provide a general program update. The second brings in Raftelis Consultants, a national firm that specializes in utility rate studies and stormwater program assessments for local governments. Vice Mayor Mark Merwitzer sponsored the Raftelis presentation, according to the agenda published on the village's Granicus portal on Thursday, July 9.
No specific rate proposals, dollar figures, or capital project costs appear in the published agenda materials. The Raftelis presentation package is listed as an attachment to the agenda item but its contents have not been made publicly available in the online portal.
The agenda also includes a discussion item on creating a Public Safety District as a Dependent Special District, sponsored by Vice Mayor Merwitzer. That item was deferred from the Monday, July 6, regular council meeting. No additional details on the proposal's scope were included in the agenda.
How the workshop works
A Committee of the Whole is a working session. No binding votes will be taken. Any action items that emerge would move to a future regular council meeting, where residents would have a formal opportunity to vote-comment on the record.
The full five-member council is listed on the agenda: Mayor Karyn Cunningham, Vice Mayor Merwitzer, Council Member Patrick Fiore, Council Member Steve Cody, and Council Member Marsha Matson. Village Manager Nick Marano and Village Attorney John Quick will also attend.
How to watch and comment
The meeting is virtual. Residents who want to speak during the public comment period must sign in on the designated commentary sign-in sheet before speaking. Each speaker gets three minutes.
The published agenda does not include a virtual meeting link. Residents should call the Village Clerk's office at (305) 259-1234 or check the village website for access information. Anyone needing special accommodations or a sign language interpreter must contact Village Clerk Missy Arocha's office no later than four days before the meeting.
What comes next
The next Committee of the Whole workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, at 7 p.m.
