Two graduating seniors from schools that serve Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay families each earned $1,500 scholarships through a new program from Dade County Federal Credit Union.

Taylor Holton of Miami Palmetto Senior High School and D'Myah Beaumont of Coral Reef Senior High School are among 12 South Florida students in the inaugural class of the "Scholars Who Serve" Scholarship Program, DCFCU announced Friday, July 10. The credit union awarded $18,000 total across the cohort, recognizing academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and commitment to service.

Holton and Beaumont join 10 other recipients from schools across Miami-Dade and Broward counties: Solomon Campbell of Monsignor Pace High School, Alfonso Fernandez of Christopher Columbus High School, Briana Pean of Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School, Samuel Nicolas of College Academy at Broward College, Yannara Aldas of Miami Senior High School, Juanita Gomez of iPreparatory Academy, Neily Martinez of Miami Senior High School, Mengwai Jim of School for Advanced Studies West, Kiara Walden of Booker T. Washington, and Christina Hamilton of Miami Central Senior High School.

Federica Chalumeau, DCFCU's chief experience officer, said the program was created to support students who demonstrate leadership and give back to their communities. She called the 12 recipients "young leaders who are making a difference in their schools and communities."

DCFCU, a nonprofit credit union operating 10 branches across Miami-Dade and Broward since 1939, is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, or Monroe counties. Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay families are eligible to join and apply for future scholarship cycles.
