With Miami-Dade County Public Schools opening Thursday, Aug. 13, families in Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay have several after-school options to sort through before spots fill up.
Miami-Dade Parks, led by director Christina White, is accepting registration for its Fit2Play program and Children's Trust-funded after-school programs at park locations across the county. Fit2Play serves children ages 6 to 14 and runs from Aug. 14 through June 4, 2027, according to a post by Miami-Dade County on X on Monday, Aug. 10.
Spots are limited.
What it costs
Fit2Play carries a $35 weekly fee plus a $15 non-refundable registration fee, according to the county's official program page. Children's Trust-funded programs at Miami-Dade Parks sites are free, though they also require the $15 registration fee. Therapeutic recreation and inclusion programs are available as well.
The county describes Fit2Play as a nationally acclaimed program developed in partnership with the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine. The curriculum includes 45 minutes of daily physical activity, nutrition education, recreation games and homework time.
Where to sign up
There is no registration deadline, but each site has a capacity limit and the county is urging families to register promptly. Sign-ups are handled online through Park Link at miamidadeparks.com.
Coral Reef Park (7895 SW 152 St.) is the primary Miami-Dade Parks youth programming site in Palmetto Bay, though families should check Park Link for the confirmed 2026-27 Fit2Play site list.
Cutler Bay's own program
Separately, the Town of Cutler Bay runs its own after-school program at Cutler Ridge Park (10100 SW 200 St.), according to the town's parks and recreation page. That program is for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, costs $100 per child to register plus $50 per month, and is capped at 72 participants. Registration opened Aug. 3, but with only 72 spots available, the program may already be at capacity. The Cutler Bay program runs Aug. 13 through June 3, 2027, and is funded in part by The Children's Trust.
What's different
The two programs serve different age ranges and carry different costs. Fit2Play targets ages 6 to 14 with a fitness and nutrition focus. The Cutler Bay town program covers K-5 and emphasizes academic assistance, literacy and social skills alongside physical fitness.
Miami-Dade Parks programs also run during one-day camps, Thanksgiving break, winter break and spring break, except on legal holidays. Families can register for county programs at miamidadeparks.com and check with the Town of Cutler Bay for its program's availability.
