Cutler Bay has a new video podcast, and the mayor got the first seat at the table.

The Town of Cutler Bay launched "Cutler Bay All Day" on Aug. 24, a video podcast built around conversations with the people who helped shape the community. Mayor Tim Meerbott, who has lived in Cutler Bay since he was a baby and served on the town's first council after incorporation, sat down for the debut episode.

The 39-minute premiere is streaming on the podcast's dedicated YouTube channel and through the town's website.

Town Manager Rafael Casals said in a town press release that the podcast gives residents "a more personal perspective and an opportunity to get to know the elected officials, community leaders, business owners, and longtime residents who have helped shape our Town …"

The podcast fulfills a specific Town Charter requirement. Section 3.11(B) directs the town manager to engage residents of all ages through traditional media, online communication, community events, town hall meetings and "other effective and innovative forms of communication." The town says the podcast meets that mandate by adding a new channel to its outreach.

Since the premiere, at least five more episodes have gone up. Vice Mayor Michael Callahan appeared in Episode 2, followed by council members Robert "BJ" Duncan, Suzy Lord and Richard Ramirez. A sixth episode lists a guest identified only as "Rafael."

Cutler Bay operates under a council-manager form of government with a five-member Town Council. The town incorporated in November 2005 as Miami-Dade County's 35th municipality. More than 40,000 residents call it home, according to the town's website.

Meerbott was part of the first Town Council from 2006 to 2010 before winning the mayor's seat in 2018. In a 2020 essay on the town's website marking the 15th anniversary of incorporation, he wrote about his roots: "The Cutler Ridge that I grew up in was a strong, working-class community … When we made the decision to incorporate, it was about putting people in charge that live in and care about our community."

Each episode features a conversation with someone connected to Cutler Bay, whether a longtime resident, community leader, business owner or historian, as first reported by South Dade Spotlight on Sept. 23.
