Westminster Christian School is telling parents to stop entering campus through the wrong gate and driving against the traffic pattern during after-school pickup, saying both behaviors put students and staff at risk.

The Palmetto Bay private school posted a notice Sunday, Sept. 20, reminding families that all preschool and elementary after-school pickup for clubs and athletics must go through S.W. 67th Avenue. No exceptions.

The school said some parents have been entering the elementary campus through the access road at the high school guard gate or driving against the established traffic flow. The school called both practices a safety risk for students, families, faculty, staff and security personnel.

The notice also asked parents to follow directions from on-campus security guards and to treat them with courtesy and respect.

Westminster Christian, at 6855 S.W. 152nd St., serves students from preschool through 12th grade. The campus sits near the intersection of S.W. 67th Avenue and S.W. 152nd Street.

The Sept. 20 notice, framed as a reminder, did not cite a specific incident. The school issued similar pickup and drop-off guidance in August ahead of the new school year. That earlier notice told families not to pick up students on the road outside school gates and warned that vehicles arriving 20 to 30 minutes before dismissal block roadways and add to congestion.

The August guidance also set arrival windows for middle school families: no earlier than 2:45 p.m. on standard school days and no earlier than 2 p.m. on Thursdays.
