The town of Cutler Bay's annual charity golf tournament brought in more than $16,000 for the fund that bankrolls grants to local nonprofits.

The 18th Annual Cutler Bay Open Charity Golf Tournament drew golfers to Redland Golf & Country Club on Sept. 12. The day featured an 18-hole four-person scramble, raffles, a 50/50 raffle, mulligans, a best-dressed competition and a luncheon with an awards ceremony. Registration cost $75 per person and was capped at 100 players, according to Community Newspapers.

Players checked in at 7:15 a.m. before a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The morning included breakfast, range balls and on-course beverages. A luncheon and awards ceremony followed at noon.

Where the tournament money goes

Every dollar raised goes to the Cutler Bay Community Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit the town created in 2013 to support organizations working in education, beautification, the environment, culture and social services. The fund's board is made up of the mayor and Town Council. Grants range from $500 to $2,500, with one award per organization per year, and the fund says 100% of money collected goes solely to charitable purposes, according to the town's Community Fund page. Priority goes to groups that serve Cutler Bay residents.

County office and local businesses sponsor event

Sixteen sponsors underwrote the event.

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, who represents District 8, including Cutler Bay, served as presenting sponsor through her county office. Land Rover South Dade was the hole-in-one sponsor.

Other sponsors listed by the town included Baptist Health, Kaufman Lynn Construction, BrightView Landscape Services, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Longitude Surveyors LLC, Acosta Tractors, Envirowaste Services Group, R.J. Behar & Co., Rise Flag Football, South Florida Fabrication and Fencing, Statec Consulting Services, Teckpert, The Corradino Group and VisualScape.

In a statement Tuesday, the town thanked sponsors, golfers, volunteers and staff for contributing to the fund's work across Cutler Bay. The town did not release winning team names or individual results.
