Palmetto Bay residents can meet their local law enforcement officers over free food, bounce houses, and an outdoor movie at Coral Reef Park on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

The Village of Palmetto Bay announced its National Night Out and Back to School FunFest will run from 6 to 10 p.m. at the park, according to the Village's website.

The event is free.

National Night Out is a nationwide campaign held the first Tuesday each August, organized by the National Association of Town Watch. The effort draws an estimated 38 million participants across thousands of communities and promotes partnerships between residents and police.

In Palmetto Bay, policing is provided by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office under a local patrol contract. Village budget records show the contract cost $861,091.59 for March 2026 alone. Officers from the Sheriff's Office are expected to be on hand with police vehicles for residents to explore.

The Village described the evening as a chance for families to spend time with their local law enforcement and said it will include sponsored back-to-school giveaways, though specific sponsors and the movie title have not been announced.

Palmetto Bay has hosted National Night Out in prior years. After the 2022 edition, the Village thanked its policing unit officers, Mayor Cunningham, Vice Mayor Leanne Tellam, and Councilmembers Steve Cody and Patrick Fiore for attending alongside schools, vendors, and the Parks and Recreation department.

Cutler Bay is holding its own National Night Out the same evening at Cutler Ridge Park, featuring free backpacks, a DJ, and children's activities. We covered that event July 18.
