Coral Reef posted its second straight shutout with a 41-0 rout of Hialeah-Miami Lakes on Thursday, Oct. 1, while Southridge erased a 16-point deficit to edge South Dade 23-22.

Both South Dade-area teams won on the same night, but in dramatically different fashion. Coral Reef cruised to its biggest victory of the season, while Southridge rallied from a 19-3 second-quarter deficit.

Coral Reef 41, Hialeah-Miami Lakes 0

Coral Reef's defense did not allow a point for the second straight game.

The Barracudas blanked Sunset 37-0 on Sept. 24 before shutting out Hialeah-Miami Lakes 41-0, giving Coral Reef consecutive wins by a combined score of 78-0, according to MaxPreps.

Jayden MacFarlane led the ground game with 85 rushing yards and two touchdowns on six carries. Derek Narvaez added 55 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The victory improved Coral Reef to 3-3. Hialeah-Miami Lakes fell to 1-5.

Coral Reef has won three of its past four games after opening the season with consecutive losses.

The Barracudas travel to Ferguson on Saturday, Oct. 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Southridge 23, South Dade 22

Southridge trailed 19-3 in the second quarter at South Dade before rallying for a one-point victory, according to a MaxPreps recap.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak and improved Southridge to 2-4.

South Dade fell to 2-5.

The victory came one week after Southridge lost 21-20 to Mater Academy Charter in its district opener.

Southridge returns to district play Friday, Oct. 9, at Everglades in Miramar. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
