Students participating in qualifying after-school programs at South Dade Senior High School can now receive free meals after classes and during Saturday Academy.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools added South Dade Senior High, at 28401 SW 167th Ave., to its After-School Meals Program beginning Sept. 1.

The program operates at more than 285 schools across Miami-Dade and is a component of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Child Care Food Program, according to a district announcement.

Meals are available at no separate charge to children enrolled in after-school care programs or Saturday Academy at participating schools.

The district said the meals must meet USDA requirements and include fresh fruits and vegetables.

South Dade also qualifies for free breakfast and lunch

South Dade Senior High is also among 121 M-DCPS schools participating in the federal Community Eligibility Provision for the 2026-27 school year.

Students at those schools receive free breakfast and lunch during the regular school day without having to submit an application for meal benefits.

The designation is particularly significant this year because M-DCPS no longer provides free breakfast and lunch to every student districtwide.

For the previous four years, the district participated in the Community Eligibility Provision on a districtwide basis. Updated federal eligibility data determined that M-DCPS no longer qualified to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students through the program.

The School Board approved new meal pricing for 2026-27 at its July 22 meeting.

Students at the 121 qualifying CEP schools, including South Dade Senior High, continue receiving breakfast and lunch at no charge. At other schools, eligible students can still receive free or reduced-price meals based on federal eligibility requirements.

More programs can request meals

M-DCPS said new educational or enrichment programs that begin during the 2026-27 school year can request after-school meals for participating students.

New Saturday Academy programs can also request meal service.

Schools seeking to add the service can contact the M-DCPS Department of Food and Nutrition.

Families seeking information about meal availability at South Dade Senior High should contact the school directly.
