Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay residents who owe overdue court fines can have the 30% collection fee waived starting Monday, Oct. 5, through Miami-Dade's Operation Green Light.

The two-week program runs through Sunday, Oct. 18, and covers parking tickets, traffic citations, misdemeanor fines and criminal court fees, according to the Miami-Dade Clerk of the Courts.

Residents can pay online around the clock or visit any Clerk office location in person Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Select locations offer extended hours on Thursdays until 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for traffic and parking services only.

The collection-fee waiver is automatic. Residents do not need to appear in person to receive it.

Under Florida law, unpaid fines sent to collection agencies carry an extra 30% surcharge. During Operation Green Light, that surcharge is removed from the system, according to an announcement in Miami's Community Newspapers. The program also allows residents to set up payment plans, request trials, file motions, process traffic-school certificates and pursue license reinstatements.

Miami-Dade Clerk of the Court and Comptroller Juan Fernandez-Barquin said in a Monday, Sept. 28, statement that his office is the only Clerk of the Court in Florida to hold two large-scale Operation Green Light events each year. "We're here to help you get back on the road!" Fernandez-Barquin said.

To qualify, residents must not have outstanding violations in other Florida counties or license suspensions unrelated to nonpayment.

The Clerk's office also highlighted its free mobile app, available on Apple and Android devices. A feature called My Driver's Vault lets users upload a Florida driver's license and up to three license plates. The app then monitors Miami-Dade records and sends push notifications when a new citation is filed.

Camera-enforcement notices, such as red-light and school-zone violations, do not appear in the app because the Clerk's office does not process those payments.

A separate tool called Clerk Direct connects residents with the correct department to answer questions about the court process.

Non-immigrant holders of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) should note that a federal regulation effective March 16, 2026, prevents the Clerk's office from reinstating suspended licenses for those drivers. They must contact the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector's Office directly.

Mail-in payments must be postmarked between Oct. 5 and Oct. 18. Accepted methods include cash, personal checks, cashier's checks, money orders, Visa, MasterCard, AmEx and Discover.
